Community Rules — Eventide
Last updated: 2026-10-14
Eventide is a dating service for Adventists who hope to marry. These rules restate our Terms of Service in plain language and form part of them; where the two differ, the Terms govern. When you create an account you agree to them, including the standard of modesty and appropriateness below, and you agree that we decide who is admitted to Eventide against it.
¶Before a profile goes live
Two things happen before anyone else can see your profile.
The liveness check. Everyone who joins takes a short check with their phone's camera at signup. It is how we know that each new member is a real person, present when they joined, and the person in their own photographs. Eventide is a community of real people, and the check is what lets us keep it one, so it is required to join. Our Privacy Policy (§3.8) explains what the check collects, how long we keep it and your rights over it.
The review. A person reads every photograph and every piece of written profile content before other members see it: your profile when you join, and everything you add or change afterwards (your name, photos, bio, prompt answers, church information, your own words about how you eat, and what you list under "Been part of"). The review asks one question: does this meet our community's standard of modesty and appropriateness, set out below? It is a review of what your profile shows and says. Whether you are a real person is the liveness check's question.
We do not ask you to pass a quiz or fill in a questionnaire about your faith. You may describe your faith in your own words.
Two things are not reviewed in advance: messages between matched members, and the short comment you can attach to a like, are delivered immediately and are not read by us first. Both can be reported in two taps, a person reviews every report, and the rules below apply to them in full.
While an edit of yours is being reviewed, your previously approved profile stays visible, so making a change does not hide your profile. If we decline something, we tell you why, and you can fix it and resubmit.
¶Modesty and appropriateness
Many in our community hold to a standard of modesty in dress and in speech, and Eventide asks every member to keep to it in their profile. It is one standard, and it applies in the same way to every member. It is about what a photograph shows and what words say.
Your photographs
- Dress as you would for a public place such as church, work or a family meal.
- No photographs in swimwear, underwear, sleepwear or lingerie, and none without a shirt or top.
- No clothing that is see-through, or cut or worn to show the chest, midriff or upper thigh.
- No poses, angles, gestures or captions meant to draw sexual attention.
- No photographs featuring alcohol, tobacco, vaping or drugs.
- Photographs of you, recent, with your face easy to see. In a group photograph it must be clear which one is you. No edits or filters that change how you look.
Your words
- Write as you would speak to someone you have just met: nothing crude, sexual or suggestive, and nothing unkind or demeaning about anyone.
- Be honest about yourself, in your own words.
- No phone numbers, email addresses, social media handles or links in your profile. You can share them in a conversation when you choose to.
How we apply it. A person at Eventide reviews each photograph and each piece of written content against this standard, and decides who is admitted to Eventide. We may decline a photograph or words that do not meet it, and we may decline or remove a profile that does not meet it, or that falls below it again after we have asked for a change. When we decline something we tell you what to change, and you can change it and send it again. A decision under this standard is about what a profile shows and says. It is never based on a member's sex, race, colour, ethnicity, national origin, ancestry or disability. If you think we have got a decision wrong, write to support@eventidedating.com and a person will look at it again.
¶Be who you say you are
- Use your real first name and recent photographs of yourself.
- Be truthful about your age, your circumstances and your intentions.
- One account per person. Eventide is for unmarried people seeking marriage. Do not join while married or in a relationship.
- Take the liveness check yourself. Using a photograph, a screen, a mask, a recording or another person to get through it is misrepresenting who you are.
¶Keep it decent
- No nudity or sexually explicit content in profiles, photos or messages.
- No hateful, harassing, threatening or demeaning words toward anyone.
- Disagreement about doctrine or practice does not justify contempt. You will meet members whose convictions differ from yours; treat them with the courtesy you would show in your own church.
¶No commercial activity or scams
- No advertising, recruiting, promoting a ministry or business, or multi-level marketing.
- Never ask another member for money, gift cards, financial details or cryptocurrency, for any reason, including a ministry or an emergency. If someone asks you, report them. Requests like these are a common start to romance scams.
¶Privacy in a small community
The Adventist community is small, and members may know your family, your pastor or your church. For that reason:
- What someone shares with you in a conversation stays there. Do not screenshot profiles or messages to share around.
- Do not use Eventide to check up on, gossip about, or track people you know.
- If a match does not work out, let it end graciously. Do not contact the person through their church, mutual friends or social media after they have ended contact here.
¶Experience
- Don't use Experience to find out where someone is, or to follow them. The list of who's going and the likes after an event are for meeting people who want to meet you.
- At an open home you are a guest in someone's home. These rules apply there, and so do the hosts' house rules. Keep the address to yourself, and come only if you hold a seat, on your own.
- If you can't come, give up your seat in the app before the evening, so the next person waiting can come. If you hold a seat and don't come, the hosts or Eventide may mark you as a no-show. A no-show mark is not a penalty, and it is kept in your account's record.
¶When something is wrong, tell us
Every profile and every conversation has Report and Block two taps away.
- Blocking is instant and mutual: you disappear from each other completely, and neither of you is told.
- A person reviews every report. We aim to act within 24 hours, and reports about safety are handled first. Reports do not suspend an account automatically: Eventide reviews them and may hide, suspend or ban the account.
- If someone makes you feel unsafe, on Eventide or after meeting in person, report them even if you have already blocked them. A report can protect other members.
- A report you know to be false, or one made to get back at someone, also breaks these rules.
Breaking these rules can mean removed content, a warning, a hidden profile, suspension, or a permanent ban, depending on what happened. A warning always names the reason. Anything involving a minor, a credible threat, or fraud is reported to law enforcement.
Take ordinary precautions when meeting someone you met online. Please read our safety page at https://eventidedating.com/safety before you meet.
